In 1907, Walter McCoy joined the business, and at the time, the funeral home was located at First and Broad streets in downtown Middletown. Several years later, in 1912, McCoy bought into the funeral home, changing the name to Rathman-McCoy Funeral Home. In 1923, he purchased the Rathman interest and the business became known as McCoy Funeral Home. The history of our funeral home dates back to 1849 when Godfrey Rathman opened a furniture store and undertaking business. Following Godfrey’s death, Emil continued the business as Rathman Funeral Home.

A few years later in 1963, Robert L. Breitenbach began working at the funeral home and became the owner 15 years later following Leffler’s death. After 50 years of service and commitment to the community, Breitenbach passed away in 2013. Cindy and Bob loved to travel, having gone on a World War II tour in Europe, a Viking ocean cruise and several all-inclusive resort vacations. His sense of humor and lust for life always made traveling fun.
